Jay Hutcherson - Director/Owner
Jay Hutcherson received his Bachelor's of Music Education at the University of Georgia in 1983. He acquired a Master's of Business Administration in 2006 from the University of Phoenix. Mr Hutcherson is a retired teacher with thirty six years of teaching experience - twenty five with Fulton County Schools. He has taught high school, middle school and elementary school bands during his career. He has taken all three levels of bands to district Performance Evaluations and has received superior ratings at each level. Mr Hutcherson He founded the Holy Redeemer After School Band program in 2000 and continues to teach there today. He has performed on Trumpet for the past thirty-seven years.
In 2006, Mr. Hutcherson founded and directed the first ever Fulton County Elementary Honor band. The Honor Band performed at the GMEA Fifth District Performance Evaluation and received straight superior ratings as a first-year group. The 2009-10 edition placed as 'Gold Level Finalist' in the Band Brilliance National Young Bands Competition. The band was made up of seventy-four students from twenty-five elementary schools in Fulton County, GA.
Mr. Hutcherson also founded the Vivace! Summer Band Camp in 2007. The camp began as a fifth and sixth grade camp and expanded the following year to two camps. Over 100 students in grades four through eight have attended this camp for two summers. Now the camp is for middle school students in grades 5 through 8 and just had our sixth annual camp this past summer with two concert bands, jazz band, master classes and more. Currently, he directors the Holy Redeemer after school band program. He also is the owner of and teaches privately at The Music Hutch Studio in Johns Creek, Georgia. The Music Hutch Studio also rents school band and orchestra instruments.
